2008 winner was the yacht Aquila skippered by Alan Cairns - circumnavigated Skye in 23 hrs.

2009 winner.....Yacht Aquila in just under 24 hours. Only Aquila has entered this year. Seonaid was unable to complete race due to weather conditions and Galwyn ran out of time. Alan Cairns of Aquila will receive his trophy and prize before March, ready for the 2010 season.

Early easters give us an opportunity to see what's going on underwater when we are not normally operational. Surprisingly we are seeing young moon jellyfish already and some big shoals of pollock.

April - May 2010

More young jellyfish mostly moon, some comb jellies and even a young lion's mane... sand eels are being seen most days and still some big pollock shoals around. During the bad weather we've had some excellent otter sightings, with some great photos being taken. The Raven chicks are visible in their nest, looks like another 3 this year. The lesser black backed gulls arrived at the beginning of April, the greylag geese are in position ready to nest on the Islands by the harbour, so are a few Eider ducks. The oystercatcher with a ring on his leg has returned, he was absent for a year, but now he's back and paired up in the same nesting spot as usual.

more seals shot in Lochalsh by Marine Harvest - this time 2 pregnant common seals. follow link for BBC article on this issue http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/7981598.stm

May - June 2010 The early part of may brings in a lot of puffins, a few razor bills and some guillamots. A group of bottle nose dolphins have also visited us on two occassions this month. Lots and lots of Otter sightings as usual. The jellyfish this year are very numerous, there have been about 3 years in a row with hardly any! A great year so far for fish, with large shoals of herring and pollock swimming around Loch Alsh
July - October 2010

The common seal pups are starting to arrive, haven't counted them yet. No gull chicks or oyster catcher chicks on the islands this year - possible mink present.

Some great otter sightings in 2009. pictures of some of my favourite otter shots... otter link here...all pictures taken from Seaprobe Atlantis by Nigel
